Hmmmm..."Diana"...hmmm..."Divina"....mmmm; how do you spell "dodder?"

[I only have trouble making sons...(no, no trouble making them!)]

My bad--assumed you had read the spam, which is apparently from "divina" and given you suggested providing the info, and your name is "diana" it was a (obviously!) lame attempt at humor...people sometimes post under different names here, as you no doubt have gathered, sometimes not too different from their "other" name.

Yeah I did read the spam, and my own post was a joke, because he/she had sent the post multiple times, I was joking that maybe if someone would just give her their bank account info maybe she'd go away (not really a she most likely but whatever). I am finding it very difficult to figure this place out. I guess I shouldn't have tried to make a joke. I don't like that people thought I was a guy. Why? Why is it hostile here? It seems unnecessary. Skies certainly has some views I don't agree with (putting it mildly), but I do wonder if she was right it's hostile to women here. I do not remember the dead scene being hostile to women in any way. I was never really a dead head back then, but I knew quite a few and they were very far from macho jerks.

Don't the rest of you know any women who listen to the Grateful Dead? Can't a woman want to talk about the Grateful Dead? I am *interested* in the Grateful Dead. I have no ulterior purpose, I am not here to pick up guys or something (48 years old and long and happily married). Is it really strange to meet a woman who has an actual interest in the Grateful Dead? Maybe it is, since I don't seem to have anyone in real life to talk to about it, and this group is like a bizarre parallel universe or something.

Diana ,fur sure never forget to clarify first you dont agree with my opinions ,to get along with the macho jerks ! The boys usually stick together and at the first occasion a woman usually makes it clear she doesn't agree with other women , which is why married life was invented for them , maybe ?

Nothing to do with not agreeing with "other women." It's *you* I didn't agree with. There's plenty of men I don't agree with on things here, either.

Diane, all is good, but you may need to put this one in your pipe and smoke it. This one really got the newbie smokin'

All of my friends come to see me last night
I was laying in my bed and dying
Annie Beauneu from Saint Angel
say "the weather down here so fine"

Just then the wind
came squalling through the door
but who can
the weather command?
Just want to have
a little peace to die
and a friend or two
I love at hand

Fever roll up to a hundred and five
Roll on up
gonna roll back down
One more day
I find myself alive
tomorrow
maybe go
beneath the ground

See here how everything
lead up to this day
and it's just like
any other day
that's ever been
Sun goin up
and then the
sun it goin down
Shine through my window and
my friends they come around
come around
come around

People may know but
the people don't care
that a man could be
as poor as me...
"Take a look at poor Peter
he's lyin in pain
now let's go run
and see"

Run and see
hey, hey,
run and see

This is what is frustrating to me in this forum. I have no idea what the meaning of your reply is. I love the song, though.

Fairly new to all this myself, I can only suggest that any indistinct meaning in his reply should be overlooked in favor of the great truth to which he speaks....he is lying in pain.

That must be it - people are just free associating and I'm trying to make it all make sense.
I actually thought of "See here how everything lead up to this day, and it's just like any other day that's ever been Sun going up and then the sun going down Shine through my window and my friends they come around" for favorite lyrics and thought no, too morbid. I like all the death songs.

I like the death/suicide/murder ballad songs too. Here is a cool thread from a while back on that topic.

Death is your wish apparently... I always viewed it as a Black Peter. AT EASE SAILOR

If you all need some pain >

Diana, I can assure you that Sir William is harmless, and is truly one of the good guys here. And he is correct about the help you will receive. Unfortunately the general demeanor here seems drive most of the "ladies" away, but if you can learn to overlook the "chest pounding" this place is a veritable cornucopia of Grateful Dead knowledge.

Thanks, I had you pegged as a good guy too :) though if you chose a more memorable user name it would help ... it is tough on a newbie, you know, to have to try to remember "user unknown" is a person named Bill ... I've never understood why people don't use their real names. For the record I'm really Diana. Seems a much simpler way to get to know people, to me . . .

Thanks for the compliment, and nice to meet you Diana.

Oh yeah, I'm pretty harmless myself...58 years old and also "long and happily married"..but to a woman with absolutely no appreciation of Grateful Dead and no understanding of the fascination I have for the music

Oh crap--sorry! I knew yours was a joke too--I didn't mean to sound like I didn't, I was just having to explain mine because it wasn't obvious, esp to a new person that doesn't know the history on the user names, etc.

And, I guess you've gathered from all the biz here it is a difficult place to pick up enough speed to feel comfortable--but by no means judge that from my poor attempt at humor (I know you aren't)...I'd say that just as when you asked something like "best StSt?" or whatever it was that got the two of us talking, is always the best, and in spite of all the negative stuff you've seen, someone will reply with info...I'd say though that it takes a few months of lurking, then a few more posting til folks either "fit in" (ie, don't mind the jokes, ignore the crap, and pick and choose as they see fit--or, frankly bow out cause it's not their cup of tea).

You could try over at Dead Hook, just "google it" as they are very friendly...to be honest though, it's more personal there, and even after being there for a long while, I still don't really "fit in"...

This is the best place by far if you have questions, of most any sort. I can say with great confidence that when you need opinions/advice on 1) best AUD recorded show to download? or 2) first Dark Star with feeling groovy jam? or 3) best audio CDs to buy for burning? or 4) best external hard-drive or etc., etc., etc., this is the place. Lots of people share shows as well, so after establishing relationships, you can pursue that if you like (though it requires "off site" contact via email or some such).

Miss D has been here a long time, and we are "chums" (communicate off site, share shows), as has the Sainted Stephen poster, though she is a bit of an enigma to me...posts every once in while and that's it. But there aren't many gals! Maybe I am a bit creepy after all? My jokes don't work well...

EDIT: Bill (user unknown above) is a great guy, and can defn tell you about DHook, will no doubt keep any of them in check (nothing like what happens here happens there though...it is "moderated" and folks here have in fact been "banned" from there...somehow I still get in...har, har). My point in adding this is to say there are a number of very nice gals over there, many more than here. But, to answer that original question, you're right that there aren't many--I realize I only know one (my sister).

No don't apologize, I know you are friendly and not creepy, you and a couple of others, I was just having a paranoid attack I guess. I regretted the joke because after you told me people thought I was a guy, then the next thing I do is respond with a joke that sounds like maybe I'm a spammer. I'll keep trying, I appreciate your efforts to make me feel comfortable. The place *is* difficult - there are a lot of people here and I really only have any sense of maybe 4 or 5 people. If people are changing their names of course that doesn't help. People behaving like complete jerks tend to stand out, but it's not fair to judge the whole that way. Anyway thanks again, I really appreciate it.
